Toshiba 16X DVD

$75 and there are various $10 to $15 off coupons about. I'm not sure if it's CloneCD compatible like it's slower cousins are, but I'd bet it is.

You know what's ridiculous about this? It's that this drive costs $1 LESS to ship than a stick of RAM! :Q

That is somewhat strange. A drive can take a little more beating than a stick of ram, but it also weighs about 20x more.

the link takes me to accessmicro's homepage, but not to the drive. I can find the drive on their webpage.

I'm looking to replace my LOUD 48X Memorex drive. Is a DVD 16x pretty quiet when reading normal CD's?

Toshiba DVD drives are known for their quietness. My 12x Toshiba (SDM-1402, the one in this thread is the 1502) is very quiet. Just a really slight whine on spin-up, then that's about it.

Oh, yeah... Toshiba drives are the best if you are ripping mp3s with Exact Audio Copy. They are also the reference drives for CloneCD.
