The Lucky Star K7VAT Socket A motherboard appears to exactly meet my space and feature requirements. Unfortunately, I have found no discussions or reviews of it and am uneasy about buying one without benefit of some insight to its performance.

Lucky Star?s web site is very primitive with several errors, so not very reassuring. I have only located a few on-line suppliers and they present a fairly tacky appearance as well.

Any feedback on this product would be welcome.

A little more background.

I have an Enlight 7101 mid-tower case. This is a small mid- tower 15? high x 17? deep x 9? wide. The power supply is turned 90 degrees from customary position so it is parallel to the motherboard. With the case 1.5? wider than typical cases, there is plenty of space between the motherboard and the power supply.

However, the case is not very deep at 17?. Unfortunately, I use a removable drive tray in the top bay and it extends to within 7? of the back of the case. Therefore, anything ?tall? on the motherboard in the upper front corner may be in conflict with the tray.

I?m presently using a Soyo 5EHM+ Super 7 board with a K6-III 450 CPU. This board is only 7.5? deep and the CPU assembly in the upper forward corner is in contact with the drive tray ? works OK, however. Eventually, I expect to go to a Athlon 1G+ CPU, so I?m studying motherboards to see what fits. Most have memory slots in the area of my drive tray and other components at the front edge of the board that would be behind other bays. The most extreme, such as Abit and Asus are very deep and place many components in this area.

After searching through the many motherboard offerings in existence, I ran across the Lucky Star K7VAT motherboard, which is only 7.5? deep. Further, the memory slots are only 6.5? forward of the back edge. It also has on-board sound and an ISA slot that I would prefer to obtain. Of course, the bad news is that I?ve never heard of them, so would be uneasy in using their board. Further, they may not be a comprehensive source so that future BIOS upgrades and other support may not be available.

So naturally, my question from anyone knowledgeable of this company or product.

Incidentally, I?m relatively certain the Gigabyte 7ZX will fit my needs and is probably what I?ll end up using. Of course, I could replace the case with something bigger, but I really like this one and prefer trying to make it work.
