I'm in the process of designing a couple of low profile, small footprint cases for myself and a few friends, and I'm looking for opinions. I'm going to use a micro ATX board (probably the ASUS CUSL2-M with the 10/100 adapter integrated), anywhere from a Celeron 566 and up, whatever other components are desired (choice of video and sound gear) CD-ROM, HDD, and FDD. Basically, a bare bones system, but designed with low weight, cooling, and small size in mind. So far, I think I'm looking at about $65 per case, including 2 120mm aluminum Panflo fans and the power supply. I'll post a quick drawing of the plans when I get a chance. So, what do you guys think?

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention something. The entire case is going to fit neatly (with all cables) in a briefcase :D Wish me luck! :)

Hi Chooie, got your email, but i've been having problems sending out email while at home :( But anyway, as for your question, the lucite I got was 18"X20" if i remember correctly. They were about 1/8" in width also. Are you sure the HD around you is charging $80? Make sure its lucite you are looking at and not plexi or lexan. I believe they are more expensive.

But for this case you plan on constructing here, are you sure lucite is strong enough to house all those components? Maybe looking for a thicker plexi or lexan might be better or maybe even thicker lucite. Good luck, keep us posted!

Well, I just went down to HD today, and found out for myself that a 24" x 48" piece of 3/16" Lucite-TUF is $35.00, that's much better than I thought. I also found an atache-looking toolbox at HD with movable dividers. I think I'm going to pick one up, take the interior measurements, and go from there. It has a good handle and locking latches, and all for about $20.
