Lucent V.92 Winmodem $17 shipped

This is a good modem, better than most of the Conexant/Rockwell based modems I have tried (except for one with an HSFi chipset which was on par, and which this place also has for $18 shipped listed as Churchill). I've ordered from this vendor twice before and both times went very smoothly. The second time was over a weekend, but the first time was on a weekday and they had my order shipped 2 hours after I placed it.

All winmodems are controllerless and use the CPU for that, not all winmodems are lacking an onboard DSP and use the CPU for that. Using the CPU for DSP functions is what can hog the CPU, this modem has an onboard DSP. So, this modem won't use a lot of resources and slow your computer down. Didn't you dump this same turd on the Compgeek's winmodem deal as well?

not anymore...maybe when we were running P1 200mhz machines but they don't even put a dent in today's 1ghz+ CPU's

I wish people would get off that stupid bandwagon.
We're talking about dealing with a few thousand bits per second. New CPU's deal with Millions of operations per second.

I got this modem today. There is a V.92 sticker on the box, and I am using the modem now with the latest (8.22) Lucent drivers. It is V.92.

Difference between V.90 and V.92? Not a whole lot. V.92 has faster handshake so you connect faster if the ISP supports it. Another feature is call-waiting while you are online. That's all I can think of.
