IESB has learned that as soon as George Lucas converts his "Star Wars" movies to 3D and re-releases them in theaters, he will shift his focus on bringing a completely new trilogy to the big screen.

The goal is to re-release "Episode I: The Phantom Menace" in 3D in 2012 and be done with the entire saga by around 2017. Within two years after that, the first installment in the new trilogy will be released.

The new films will be financed by the profits from the 3D re-releases and will have nothing to do with the live-action TV series that's currently in the works. In fact, it will have very little to do with the Skywalker storyline. Instead, the plan is to further explore the "Star Wars" universe by making three sequels that will take place many years in the future.

So get ready, new "Star Wars" films are only a decade away!

ugg, I'm aware that he originally wrote 9 stories but he released 4-6 first because they were the best/most complete stories. He needs to stop massacring my childhood memories of what was previously a great series.

They are 'his' movies and he can do whatever he wants with them...If someone has a problem with it, they can produce and direct their own damn movies...

Who really cares who shot first???
 
If true, and if he follows his previous pattern of 3 years between each movie, that means that 50 years will have passed between the release of Star Wars and the release of the "last" sequel.

What surprises me is the need to use money from the 3D releases to finance the new movies. I figured he had enough money to do that by now.

I don't believe those rumors. He might say he had an overall vision for the saga, but he didn't actually write each movie's script until it was time to make that movie. There's far too many inconsistencies to think otherwise.

He wrote Star Wars as a one off, but when it turned into a huge success it was revised to Part 4: ANH. The rest is history.

If we're to have any hope that these Star Wars movies might hold a glimmer of hope for fans, Lucas needs to hand directorial duties off to someone else. He also needs to surround himself with people who aren't afraid to tell him no, your idea sucks on occasion. Someone to help him write actual, believable dialog would also help.

That does not matter. The whole point is that that scene demonstrates the very stupidity of what he is doing.

btw, han shot first and anyone that thinks otherwise needs to be slapped with a trout.
 
Does he realize he'll me nearly 80 when he starts filming in 2019? It's a portly guy--can't be that healthy. He'll probably keel over well before then.

You say it like him not being there to direct/produce the movies is a bad thing. The less he is involved the better IMO.

1) Greedo shooting first doesn't even make sense in the context of the story at that point. A few scenes later, Han is playing buddy-buddy with Jabba. His bounty at that point isn't dead or alive, it's just alive. Greedo doesn't profit by Han's death. And there's no way that Greedo saw Han pulling his blaster so he's not shooting first in self defense.

2) It establishes Han's character at the beginning as a scoundrel willing to shoot first to save his own skin. This makes his redemption throughout the rest of the saga that much more powerful.
