It seems to me that ever since xscreensaver v6.x landed, the xscreensaver-settings program crashes every time I try to open it. Short of an OS reinstall, does anyone have any ideas how to fix it?

dmesg records that the program segfaulted. The screensaver works fine, but the auto-lock after x minutes feature seems to have fallen off the wagon. Also, I've tried renaming .xscreensaver in my home directory and it didn't help.

I tried an install of this distro and version in a VM, updated it all the way, but xscreensaver-settings doesn't crash when opened.

So it works fine in a vm? Perhaps it's a video driver issue.

The screensaver is fine though, I just can't imagine a video driver issue affecting one very plain 2D app when all others are seemingly unaffected. I could have understood it being a driver issue if the screensaver crashed regularly because a particular screensaver was selected and the the settings program bugged out too when previewing said screensaver.

Bit late - it isn't a video driver issue; most likely the base machine has some installed shared library issue.
