LTSP help

I'm having mucho problems connecting diskless X-clients to either a Mandrake 8.2 or a Red Hat 7.3 server. My problem is I can't get a log in screen and I can't even get a login screen as an client with linux installed and running. I get a gray screen with the big "X" in the middle and that's it. LTSP docs say that it is an Xmanger problem but I've gone through set up many times to no avail. Is there someting that I'm missing on the server besides enabling xdmcp? ( "netstat -a | grep xdmcp" shows that xdm is enabled) Any help will be much appreciated!
