why? Does it really matter if they burn in 10 min versus 2 min? Do you sit idly while CDs burn? If so, do something contructive, clean, learn a foriegn language, something.

wow... it's even closer now.

lead in-out will take longer than the burning part.

can you imagine... at current progress... it's a matter of time... before they can replace laptop hds with burners.

Damn... I'm very satisfied with my 24x though, so I think I'll keep it for a while :)

I wonder how fast they'll end up getting before they can't go any faster...

that would not be true...
'cause of lead in-out time.

they say it's almost impossible to break 100x mark with single laser.
at such a high rpm stability really becomes an issue.

Hmm...

I might be tempted if it were a Plextor.

I am intrigued by the Yamaha 44X though, the 8 mb buffer is nice + the image writing is just plain cool.

Way to make an attack. If you are oh-so-important to need a CD in 2 minutes, why bother posting here? Obviously you are wasting time here, which would be much better spent burning a CD.

And when you work in IT, you do spend alot of time on the computer, especially on slow days. I'll stick with my old 10x burner, which kicks them out in 7 minutes. Quicker than i can prepare a new one.

What's up with all the naysayers? I love Lite-On and I'm really glad onza pointed out the next generation 48x release. My God. You guys sound like a bunch of grandmas that don't understand why they shouldn't just keep using WordPerfect 5.1 on their 486.

there is a difference between saving 20 seconds on a disc and a 486.

There's also a difference between 20 seconds and the 5 minutes you indicated two posts ago. Revisionism much?

I'm sticking with my 12x 8MB LG cdrw until it breaks...it's like 7-8mins for a CD and I'm not in that much of a rush.

My liteon 24X is the last cd burner I will ever buy. Even at 24X my comp (granted not all that fast obviously) can't keep up with the buffer, so going faster would be useless to me. Even filling a buffer 24X is damn fast.

great if your'e upgrading from a 8x or 12x burner. But i couldn't justify replacing my 24x to save a minute or two for another 100 bucks.

There is a firmware out which makes the 40x liteon into 48x liteon

Save some money. :)
