Is it normal to get 40 Mbps down and 11 Mbps up on a phone?

This is with T-mobile LTE.

I don't even get this on my computer with Comcast cable.

Moved from OT.

Normal no, possible yes. You need to be in some perfect alignment with the T-Mobile tower and in an unsaturated market to pull that kind of downstream. If you moved 8 feet to the left and turned your phone 3 degrees the opposite direction it'd be down to 22Mbs. So goes the rollercoaster that is T-Mobile signal strength.

I've pulled over 40Mbps from T-Mobile before. Not often..but it can happen.

I used to, now I typically pull 10-20 as the area has gotten more congested.

I've gotten that with both Verizon and AT&T. Not that unusual but congestion will play a large role.

When LTE first rolled out around here with Verizon I could get speeds like that. Now it's so oversaturated I can get maybe 10-15Mbps on most towers even if I have 4 bars.

I'm surprised you even have service with T-Mobile.

In NYC I average 25/20 all the time. I hit 59/50 once in a while. Tmo has gotten way better.

My VZW phone barely get 5/5 on their LTE in the exact same location.

T-Mobile in the greater NYC area is very, very fast. I routinely get 30+ down, my fastest result saved on my phone at the moment is 43/27.

With AT&T my fastest download was 60.38 and fastest upload was 28.29. This was when LTE was just released in our area.

I had a local regional provider that couldn't do better than around 10 download and 5 upload.

I switched to Verizon and my best is 42.36 download and 11.21 upload.

This is LA.

When I got my first Verizon LTE phone in 2011, I got over 70+ down. Its was incredible. Of course, I only had like 1 hour of battery life with screen since the LTE modem was not on-die... but still.

Then in 2013 my LTE speeds were crawling. At like 5-6 down.

I moved to TMo in 2013 and my speeds have been consistently in the 20+ down.

When carrier aggregation kicks in, we're cruising here in canuck land.

Of course, we also have to mortgage our houses to pay our carriers.

LTE speeds are pretty variable, as mentioned, get in a congested area, and the signal/speeds go to hell.
