LSI MegaRaid 300x8 performance w/ 3x750gb in Raid 5

Nice setup but HD Tach really confirms your bus speed and STR is in order - nothing else. If this is on a server you need to use a program like IO Meter and set it up to simulate what kind of real world load the server should expect for a real test of performance, etc.

will IO meter test write performance? What is another app I should use to test write performance...

its a home server so it doesnt REALLY matter, but I want to make sure this controller will be suitable, because eventually it will be a network file server, and be accessed for encoding and decoding video (think big media server, all legal though!)

I use the disk diagnostics in Winbench99, as well as ATTO. HDTach dosn't read Only my C drive for a good test, as I have my C/D drive on the array together, and it tends to bench both at 1 time.

What size is your stripe?

64K stripe size, should I change that any?

I'll use winbench99 and ATTO when i get home this evening.

It depends on What you do with the computer, as to what Stripe size you want. You would need to reformat to change the stripe in the controller anyhow.

I am on a 64k stripe as well, which is good for files, of course 64k and smaller. I am going to up it to 128k next time I reformat, as I do tend to move bigger files around at times. Not sure what OS you are running, but I did read in Google Groups that the LSI and XPsp2 have issues with 64k or smaller. Thats another reason I will change mine, to see if it gets better or not, tho I am not complaining yet.
