All my computers (3) and those of my clients have LS-120 drives. One of mine has the LS-240. In the LS-120s, there are two versions - one faster than the other. Suffice it to say, they are faster than floppies - but they do read faster than they write.
My next system will have a floating LS-120 in an external USB housing - that will be to carry large files around on disks I already have.
But - there are now better ways to do that - the so-called "pen" or "thumb" flash drives - or even flash media such as CF, SM, SD, or MS.
Yes - you can still buy LS-120s. I have a couple of spares on the shelf. The LS-240 is faster, and it is an interesting thing to play with. It can format regular floppies to 32 MB, but only for use in that drive.
On the plus side, the LS-120s are better than Zips - but they are both OBE.
