would puchasing a upgrade version be the best route? who sells it for the cheapest?

When I price out laptops you can buy it w/o any OS.

Or buy it for about 160bucks...

couldn't I get it cheaper.

$5.95 academic license.

But for full "legit" versions, I've bought off of Ebay. I paid around $120 for license and media...and an IDE cable.

🙂

academic version. ($82-newegg.) or buy from ebay.

thanks Rpower... wonder what the difference is with an 'academic' version.
its Windows XP Pro, nothing is disabled or restricted in any way in the software. the only restriction is in the licensing scheme where once you are no longer at a learning institution you are required to uninstall and no longer use it on any machine.

And the number of ex-students who actually do it? 0.
