Hey guys, heres my problem. I just recently found out that my video card is completely dead and my motherboard isn't in such a good condition either (my build is in the sig). So instead of replacing such old parts for another bunch of old parts I just thought it would be better to just build something that will last me for a year right now.

So with that in mind I just like to buy 4 parts that I need (maybe even 5 if I need a new PSU).

1) First I need a motherboard. I was thinking of getting something that isn't going to go over $110 so I chose this now all I want the motherboard to do is let me plug in my 2 HDs, (1 IDE, and the other 2 SATA).

2) The second thing that I'm going to need is RAM, and I decided to go with 1gb for now and maybe get another gig a bit later depending on the need. And since I couldn't really find RAM priced very low I just have to settle for this one

3) The third thing that I'm going to need is a CPU, and since I need to cut corners at every angle that I can I thought that I should get an AMD X2 3800 and just overclock it if the mobo allows for it.

4) The final thing that I need to get is a video card and I still don't know if I should go for a or 7900GS a 7600GT, is there such a big performance gap between those 2 cards? The only reason I ask is because often times I have read that GS aren't worth much, but the thing is I can get a 7900GS for about the same price as a 7600GT with all the mail in rebates.

5) And finally would I need to buy a new PSU for all of this, or would my stock PSU that I have been using with my rig be enough?

I just need this computer to be able to run a bit better than my previous one, and the games that I play aren't too graphic intense and even if they are I don't mind turning down the settings a little bit. Only thing is would this be able to run BF 2142, as thats one of the games that I'm keen on playing.

This whole setup should cost me around $659 with tax which isn't so bad. If you guys can think of anything better than the parts I have there, for a cheaper price or just a smidge more, please let me know. And if possible I would like to buy everything from that store where I showed all the parts as its the most convenient place for me.

cpu
psu
motherboard
corsair ram
and the video card you chose, 180 AR
total=$711

don't know if you need the psu, video card only needs a 350w psu, and I didn't account for taxes. i would spend a little more and get a c2d instead of am2.

The C2D is something that I would want, but the costs just start adding, and I think the 3800 would suite me for now. What I'm really concerned about is whether the 7900GS is worth it, and whether the mobo is worth it.

Also I would need to know if the the 7900GS is worth it soon, because the mail in rebate is good only until the end of the month. If you guys think that thats a good buy, then I will just pick one up tomorrow and hang on to that.

what exactly is wrong with your m/b? to be quite honest your rig in sig is fine for gaming, just put in a x800xtpe or x850xtpe, or even a x1950pro and you should be good to go.
