Looks like a 17xx series eh?

We are going to setup a very small remote branch with probably 4 employees. I don't need a 2800 or anything for this.

We were thinking of getting brave and trying a site-to-site vpn, but I don't trust the stability.

The 1700 series is on the end-of-sale track for 2007. The lowest-end current model that will support a T1 is the 1841.

For a very small office, a Cisco 805 router will run a T1 fine. You need an external CSU/DSU, however. This works best in a WAN situation where you're connecting to frame relay or the a leased line. I used these a couple of times for some of my smaller customer WAN sites and they seemed to do the job just fine.

If you're connecting to the Internet with your T1, I'd go with something more powerful and better-designed for security and connectivity.

That being said, if you've got the cash, go for the 1800-series. It's a much better and faster box. You'll pay about another $500 more for a 1841 and a T1 WIC, but it's probably worth it.

Considering what you pay in line costs a new 1800 with a wic t1 csu is not overly expensive and would be ideal.

Or if you need to cut costs ebay for a used 1700 with an internal csu/dsu.

the real question is how is the T1 being delivered to you? Do you have to have a T1 wix, or just 10Base etherenet?

Garion is right, technically an 805 might work; I missed that one because I never order routers that small. However, there is a huge difference in horsepower between the 805 and 1841, and the 805 might not support T1 line rate depending on what features you use. If at all possible, get the 1841 instead of the 805.
