Lowes employee Salaries

I've got a good 40 hour/week job but I'm considering getting a part time job at the lowes just up the street from my house. Just to earn a few extra bucks and take advantage of that employee discount. I suppose I'd just be a customer service guy that wanders around helping people out. Anyone ever worked there? Their application asks for a minimum salary requirement. I have no clue what to write down there. I don't want to lowball myself but in all honesty I don't particularly care if the job doesn't pay a lot. I guess I'd just like to get paid what others are getting paid.

Anyway, anyone familar with Lowes salaries?

It really depends on what you can sneak out of the back when no one is looking.

I assume it depends on the position, size of the store, and location of the Lowes.

For floor jobs, you're looking at just above minimum wage to maybe $9 an hour depending on the area.

I say maybe $14-16 a hr. I would ask for $19 and see what they counter with. Worse case if they lowball you just whip it out, I am sure that will turn the tables.

best bet is to put down "negotiable" thats what I always do. I you put down too high they will never call you, but too low and they may stick ya. Most of these places pay based on experience doing whatever they will have you doing.

When I was applying for those types of jobs in college, I always wrote "negotiable" on that line

Just apply at "The Workbench" and be friends with a guy that has no control over the sale of his soul by his parents. You can leave the store at any time you want without being fired.

My wife (Sales Specialist) makes over $11/something (minus bonuses and commission) and has been there less than 2 years.

Yes. If you're coming in of the street and working a customer service position, that is extremely high. I worked at a Lowes in college and I made $6.50 - $7 an hour working in the lumber section. Only managers make more than $10 an hour in my experience.

My best friend works at home depot in the kitchen design department. He started at $15/hr 3 years ago. No idea what he makes now.

Varies on area and how high they're willing to go.

Expect Lot/Cashiers to be in the minimum wage-$9 range.

Typical floor associates (depending on knowledge/experience) to be $9-$13 on average. This number will go up if you interview well or have an exceptional amount of knowledge.

Specialty floor associates (designers, appliances, etc) anywhere from $10-$19 depending on knowledge and experience. The upper end of that spectrum is deserved for people knowing their shit. People that have worked in kitchen/bath design or have serious experience with appliances and vendors.

Specialty desk associates (contractor/service) is going to be around $10-$15 starting out.

The more expensive the COL is in the area, the greater chance you'll be on the high end of the range. Same goes for how busy the store is.

On Long Island, with no experience, I managed to start out at $15/hour as an electrical associate in Home Depot as a college kid. It helped that I knew the HR person. Playing the two against each other, Lowes has offered me a $1 raise from my current salary which would be pretty decent. For me it wouldn't be worth it because I'd be losing 2 weeks of vacation and sick pay.

Don't expect to get hired right now. You are in the exact opposite of the hiring season. You'll likely get a call back around February.

From what I remember from Lowe's specifically, it was $9/hour where I live. But for many jobs there is a basic starting rate and it doesn't really matter what you put down. For example, at Comcast I put down $10/hour requirement and they started me at $12.50 because that's just the number they've come up with for everybody in that position.

You'd like to think that most companies would do that. And I suppose most larger companies would. Hire at fair market rate. I suspect that where I live will probably hire at $9-$10/hour for that job. I honestly don't care about it much. I just want to make some extra money to cover my truck payment each month. :)
