Lowes cheaper than Walmart for hardware?

JEDI

i thought walmart was THE cheapest place to buy everyday stuff when its competitor's dont have it on sale.

today, I noticed that Lowes is cheaper than Walmart on nails.

anyone notice in general which has cheaper stuff on hardware: Lowes or Walmart?

Lowes is cheaper on hardware because they buy massive amounts of it. Contractors don't go to walmart for nails, so they can't move product like Lowes can.

Man, I would never go into Walmart for hardware... but then again, there aren't any Walmarts here...

Wal-Mart is good to run over to when it's 11:00 P.M. at night and you need some emergency items to fix something in your house. Other than that, stick with buying your goods from Lowes and the other lumber/hardware retailers.

There a lot of times a store is cheaper than Walmart.. It would make sense for places like Home Depot and Lowes to have cheaper nails than Walmart because they sell more nails than Walmart.

Target often has lower prices than Walmart because Target, in effort to keep inventories low and their stores clean, has a smaller selection of products than Walmart. But, Target usually has a larger stock of their items than Walmart and often sells more of a single item than Walmart.

However, usually Walmart would be cheaper than the others if you compare their selection across the board. Home Depot would easily beat Walmart on nail prices, but fails miserably when it comes to prices on things like Draino, Damp-rid, and other cleaning products.

There is a Lowe's really close to my cybercafe. It's nice because it has almost everything I could want, but for here in Colorado their prices are sky high. Home Depot pwns the hell out of Lowe's any day of the week. $.02

walmart is 3x bigger than target in sales. to get better prices, target has to sell 3x the amount of same goods as walmart, no?

anyone have a link to any studies comparing walmart's prices on common items vs target?

There's a cyber cafe in Colorado Springs?? Wow, nevr heard of it.
Anyway, at least a year or so ago when I was buying alot of building supplies, Lowes was definitely in the hunt. And the quality of their lumber was generally far better then Home Depot. I haven't been buying much of that stuff lately, although I got a killer deal on a wood stove there 2 weeks ago (10% off for floor model + 10% off coupon.).

even ACE hardware is cheaper than Wal-mart on a lot of hardware, and ACE is the fricken most overpriced hardware store known to man.

Yea but Ace has the hard to find stuff! I needed some hardened metric bolts to install my trailer hitch a few months back ... the ones supplied were to short. Ace had it. They are always the place I look for hard to find hardware like that.

I've worked in the hardware department many a hour, yes they are expensive on many items but it's there if you need it in a hurry. Some items are cheaper though especially the paint. It's pretty good paint actually. $8.94, $9.94, and $10.94 / gallon

Yes, but there's a limit to how good the discounts Wal-Mart gets. I'm sure their discounts are pretty nice considering the volume of goods that they buy, but Target has got to be close behind in how much discount they receive, too.
