Lowe's and Home Depot accept competitors coupons... Great if you live in DFW Tx

Lowe's and Home Depot both take competitors coupons. You may have already known that. But what makes this particularly hot is that, at least in Texas (DFW), there is a hardware store chain called Sutherlands. Sutherlands routinely offers (at least 3 times last year) 20% off of your entire purchase with a coupon in the Sunday paper. They also have 15% off now and then.

If your lucky, at Home Depot you could add an additional 10% off if you can find the price lower somewhere else (they match the price, and add 10% off). Not sure if Lowe's does the same. They won't combine the coupon with any other (for example, when you move, Home Depot will send a 10%). I bought a Porter Cable fc350 nail gun a bit ago, I got 30% off with this because Walmart sold the same gun for a lower price and I had the Sutherlands 20% coupon. Over the course of last year, I have saved thousands on my remodeling job doing this. I have also bought carpeting this way (I got 20% off the materials like carpet and pad, but not off of the installation).

I am hoping that those who do get the paper in DFW can possibly post in the forums when the coupon comes out. I will try to do the same but my subscription ends soon. :(

Maybe other cities have competitors that have similar coupons.

I used to get the Dallas Morning News, now the Star-Telegram - I've never seen a Sutherland's ad or coupon in either one.

I've actually done this when I replaced all the doorknobs and hinges in the house. Sutherlands had a 15% off coupon back in December. Home Depot took it no questions asked.

I subscribe to the Star-Telegram btw.

Didn't know they would do it with carpeting. I need to check if they take the Sutherlands add for installed replacement windows.

They seem to take it for anything in the store. I have used this to buy paint, tools, lumber, even appliances. I have also used it in conjunction with already discounted items like the scratch n' dent appliances, overstocks, and closeouts.

When I bought the carpet, I called first to see if they would allow the discount, and that manager said no problem. Then when I went to pay, a different manager told me they would only discount those items which Sutherlands sells. But when I told him I had called first and gotten approval, he allowed it. Based on this I could say that YMMV on getting this to work, but I have had great results. If one store says no, try another!

BTW the ads I got last year were all in the Star.

I work at Lowe's and we're only supposed to match prices on items of the same brand and model, thus XX% off coupons aren't normally price matched, but as it seems, YMMV depending on who you talk to.

Just used a lowes 10% off at HomeDepot.

Could use some other competitors in S.FL, especially coupon-promoting ones.

I just looked through last Sunday's DMN and didn't see anything from Sutherlands. We only get the Sunday paper so I'll post if it shows up there. I've lived in Dallas for over 30 years and I can't recall having ever seen or heard of the place. While I go to HD often enough to where employees recognize me, I always shop the mom and pop hardware stores (like Elliots or Lakewood Hardware) first on principle. Generally I don't mind paying a little more for most things at those places, but right now I'm looking for a deal on patio furniture and at that price point I'll go wherever the deal is.
