what would happen if you put the voltage lower than the default? say 1.6 or 1.7v for a tbird...

would it work? lower temps?

If you're also willing to lower the speed, you should be fine.

And yes, it will result in lower temperatures.

I have been doing this for years. I just lower the voltage a little at a time until instability developes and then go back up a notch. Temps can drop substantially.

someone around here has a 1 fan PC with a lowered voltage, perhaps even an underclock.

I can beat that :)
My pc has no fans and the cpu (huge heatsink) is running @ 1.45v at stock speed (athlon 700).

No fans here, except for my CPU HFS, which is stock... and of course the PSU fan.....

I think case fans are overated.... Don;t get me wrong, if you like um thats cool, but theve nevr helped me overclock, and have never increased stability... but it's always been rock stable anyways... I am a pro-overclocker, but I do not fall under the extremest class. I enjoy overclocking as fast as I can with stock cooling and stability..... Guess that's just me.
