Lowering PC2100 RAM Timings?

I have 256mb of cas 2.5, crucial PC2100 DDR RAM. I have an ASUS A7V266 and an Athlon XP 1600. What will lowering ram timings do to decrease stability? Add heat? Also, what are the best timings to lower. The only one I am familiar with is the cas latency. Can someone please breifly describe the others and which ones I could lower. TIA

why would you want to lower the settings? All you'll do is get worse performance, and that doesnt seem to make sense...if by lower you mean like making them cas 2 instead of cas2.5, you should specify. What kind of motherboard do you have, cuz some have predefined settings for stability and/or performance.

Yes I meant going from cas 2.5 to cas 2 and so forth. In my first post it says that I have an ASUS A7V266.
