Hey everyone. I have been reading everywhere that the e6600 C2D processors are a bad deal because they don't overclock as much at the e6300or e6400. The e6600 with it's 9x multiplier is reportedly experiencing stabilty issues at 400x9. This has prompted many people to go for the e6400 cpu instead.

My main question is this: What do you think about using the asus p5b deluxe mobo with a e6600 and lowering the multiplier to 8 then setting the fsb to 400.This way you would have on oced e6600 with it's 4mb l2 chache running at the same ghz as an oced e6400 at 400x8. They would both then be at 3.2ghz and 1:1 with ddr2 800.

If I am missing something please help me. Any advice is highly appreciated. Thanks

Buying an E6600 just so you can lower the multi would be pretty retarded. You could save $100 and buy an E6400 and live without the extra 2 MB of cache as it only makes like a 1% difference in most benchmarks.

The reason to get an E6600 is that at 9x it can get higher clocks at 400ish FSB (3.6ghz). It's possible for the E6400 to reach these speeds at 8x but it's a slim chance; the highest most people ever seem to get is 3.2GHz.

I bought a 6600 with the goal of getting 400x9. Once I got my hands on it I found out that was not going to happen with my chip. I am maxed out at 366x8=2.9 at stock voltages. But I do have a week 24 chip which are not the best.

The new week 27 chips are doing much better than my chip and people don't seem to have the problems I have had. If you can wait I would wait a month or so and see how the new 6600 are doing then decided. If you had to buy now I would get a 6400.
