lowering car..questions

I just want to lower the front end of my car 2 cm or so. I want the back to stay like it is. will i need new springs, or can i just cut the old ones to shorten them? Theres such a huge gap between the front wheel wells and the tires, you could almost stick your head in there! 😱 I can only find 4-packs of springs, i dont want to spend money on the rear springs which i wont use. Its a 88 saab 9000...thanks!

For something as small as 2 cm, i'm thinking that cutting the springs won't screw up your ride that badly. I don't know if it'd be worth it, 2 cms wouldn't even be all too noticeable.

I probably will. I just wanted to see if this was even an option before blowing money, if i cut em, and they dont work out right, i could always get new ones anyways.

If all the coils on your springs are evenly spaced then you can cut them and have reasonable results. The problem comes when you have progressive rate springs; different parts of the spring react at different rates. Anyhow, cutting these is definitely not a good idea.

Proceed at your own risk🙂

I don't reccomend cutting springs at all. Just chaging the front springs or just cutting the front springs would upset the spring rate balance between the front and rear. And, you'd want to get new shocks if you were going to get new springs.

2 cm?

if i were u, i wouldnt just replace 2 springs. i havent heard of anyone ever doing that, but i would assume it would ruin your handling quite a bit since they're different. i guess it would depend on what kidn of springs they were though

2cm is a waste of time and money. if u want it lowered do it so u can at least tell. also dont forgot to get an alignment after or you might end up wearing your tires out too fast.

See if Eibach makes a set of Pro-Kit springs for your car. They are designed to lower the car about 1" without making the ride too stiff. You can use your stock shocks with them also. They will stiffen the car up a little, but not nearly as bad as most lowering springs. They're cheap, too.

i wouldn't recommend lowering your car at all...
unless you are willing to go the distance.

especially on a 88 saab...
i would just let the car be.

think about the alignment issues... i'm not sure if saabs allows you to correct the camber... but if not, then you'd have to invest in a camber kit as well.

all in all.. it just doesn't spell out 'money well spent.'
