Hi, I just noticed that on the sbc dsl oredering page the service for the pro package dropped from $39.99 to $36.99 Its only 3 dollars a month cheaper but hey 36 dollars a year savings gives me a free month! All you have to do is call for the lower rate here 1-877-SBC-DSL5 (722-3755). Only catch is you have to renew your 1 year contract, no big deal for me since i love the service! Hope this helps people save money like i did. hope this is not a repost sorry if it is! Also the standard package dropped from 29.99 to 26.99 same 3 dollar savings!

I called a few weeks ago to try to adjust my plan and the guy refused saying it was only for new customers. :(

That's a pretty big catch actually. You can call it a "Let us lock you in for a year, and we'll give you one month free" plan. :p

Confirmed... I called and SBC has no loyalty toward existing customers.... The new people get better contracts. I looked around and right now DSLExtreme is offering 1.5/256 for 26.99 (same price as sbc but better upload). Plus DSL extreme has hella better Customer Service. No circular bureaucracy, less wait time.

But also wouldn't give its existing customers the same promotional rates it offers new sign-ups. That's the way it works with every subscription market; magazines, newspapers, credit card rates, cable service, cellular service, et. al. And every company does it, unless you pester them repeatedly but nicely or have some leverage like your initial contract obligations have been met and you're free to cancel without penalty.

"No loyalty toward existing customers"? Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you trying to back out of the contract you signed? SBC isn't trying to change the contract, you are.

Where's your loyalty?

Loyal or not loyal that is not the question. LOL If you can save the money why not try? I thought it was a hot deal! Like i said it worked for me.

Of course! Never harm in asking, I always say.

But freely signing a service contract, then getting all pissy because a company wont let one re-negotiate the terms whenever it suits his whim and fancy, accusing the company of having no loyalty for abiding by a contract, is just infantile.

Particularly since that person in all probability benefited from a similar promotional deal that was not available to existing subscribers when he signed-up. Then its not just infantile but hypocritical to boot.

I wish Bellsouth dropped their rates. They are still at $50 a month or $55 a month for the Xtreme service, not to mention a $3 charge on top of that.

It's not like he's switching companies, he is staying loyal to SBC. I don't think I'll even bother trying to call, I always end up with the d*ck rep.

Did they allow you to get the newer rates?

Yeah. I was out of contract and paying $50 a month for four; was going to upgrade to the Pro package but it's not available in my area :(

In short, $27 for the next 12 months.

Just tried to lower mine to the 26.99 price and they said the only way I could do that was to add a longdistance plan (unlimited LD) to my current SBC line and then I would qualify for the lower rate. No thanks.

They sent me both email and snail mail asking me to sign up for the new $26.99 rate, even though I've been with them for years. Of course, it had something to do with the fact that my contract was expiring, and I did have to lock in for a year.

nothing beats a expert package grandfathered 6016/608 44.99 forever! i must be sbc's most loyal customer! like cable 5mb/512k woohoo! i dunno how I can live with 1500/128 when expert is at least 4 times faster :\
just to save 216 a year for crappy connection, no thanks.

The 26.95 rate for existing subscribers does NOT require purchase of other SBC services, at least for DSL customers in CA. I got a renewal letter recently with URL for the following renewal page. Dunno about subscribers outside CA.

WTF are you talking about... you are one belligerent jerk you know... you knew nothing about my situation and again you're judging me... STFU, cause I'm month to month right now and thus have every right to leave SBC whenever I please. Fvcking leave me alone cause you don't know jack.

Yes, but his input does leave you shaking your head, no? Entertaining! At least he doesn't make fun of the disabled like Stern. We do gotta get him a talk show. :D

I'm fairly sure it was crystal clear what I was talking about.

You're month to month "now", which implies you weren't before, eh? Tell me, when you signed-up, were you taking advantage of a promotional deal for new subscribers that was not available to existing customers?

I was talking about your demonstrated propensity to behave like a whiney little biotch when you don't get to have things your way, as evidenced in a few discussions now.

With SBC I've changed my plan like 3 or 4 times now, several while I was on contract. They just set your contract back to 1 year everytime you change. It doesn't lock you to any plan or price. Whenever I change its usually a 5 min phone call and its done. Call and get another CSR if they dont want to do it.

BTW, if you have the special 6000/608 plan like me, do NOT change your pricing. It might invalidate your speed to lower it from the $45 to another price. At any rate, I'm not taking that chance for $8 a month heh.

I got the same offer in the mail... they offered to drop my $29.99/mo price down to $26.99/mo. I've had them for over 3 years now.
