lower scores with higher overclocked

Does anyone know what the heck is going on.

BFG 6800GT 400/1.1 = 11600 3dmark03
BFG 6800GT 420/1.1 = 10500 3dmark03

I get a lower score when I overclock the core higher? Could this be thermal throttling?

Not really thermal throttling. But it more than likely means you are Ocing highier than you should.

ok well I ran it again at 420...now im getting 8000! lol..whats going on?

I go to the troubleshooting tab and it logs this when I run 3dmark03

Silent Running: Stress test transition: L2 -> L1

Im sure this has something to do with it. Anyone know what it means?
