Lower prices on the GTX280

Is it just prices dropping due to the GTX295 or is something else going on? It seems odd that the price would drop to the $200 range. Hot deals fourm has about 3 different topics on low priced 280s, though it seems to end fast.

Clearing stocks. I don't know why. They could easily sell it for more. They did the same when 8800gs was going to be named 9600gso and GSO turning into 48SP from 96SP.

Whatever the reason, it's been an amazing event to witness. It won't last though, 65nm will dry up and 285 pricing will settle in somewhere around $350 I'm guessing. Maybe not at first, but if 4870 x2 pricing drops more, 295 pricing will have to drop, and 285 has to find it's place somewhere.

You got 4870 1GB just under it, and 4870 X2 just over it. When you think about it, the 280 (and now 285) has been in a very sensitive spot. No exact competition, but in it's case that might be a bad thing. Someone can spend $249 and get at least 80% of it's performance (4870 1GB), or $400 after rebate and get more in most situations (4870 X2).

Actually when I think about it, the sweet spot ideally is $300-$339 for the 285..

Well newegg has the 280 at $315-330 minus manufacturer rebates, so this is about where I expect the 285 to debut.

Everything I have seen points to $399.99 MRSP for the 285GTX.

GTX 280 was going for $200 for a few hours today on buy.com

lucky americans, here in Oz, a GTX 280 costs $650 bucks (approx. $450 USD)

Here's a GTX 285 listed for $373.49 on www.buy.com. It's not avail yet though.
