Will it help? Yes, but only because you will be expending a few extra calories. If you really want to lose body fat, you have to eat in a calorie deficit, as blackdogdeek stated above.

Your body can't spot reduce fat. It will lose fat where is "feels" like it over time, although it tends to come off of places with more blood flow first, ie it will take a while to come off your ass, love handles etc.

Your body doesn't loose fat in your legs because you work out your legs.

I don't think he's talking about spot reducing. He's asking if HIIT will help lower his bf%

Adding HIIT will burn X calories.

OP, is currently either:

1. eating at a surplus which is greater than X calories greater than TDEE
2. eating at a surplus which is less than X calories greater than TDEE
3. eating at TDEE
4. eating at a deficit which is less than X calories less than TDEE
5. eating at a deficit which is greater than X calories less than TDEE

Denoted thusly:

|-BMR----case 5----TDEE-X----case 4----TDEE(case 3)----case 2----TDEE+X----case 1---|

Assuming OP eats enough protein to maintain lean muscle, he should lose body fat in all cases except case #1.

BMR = basal metabolic rate
TDEE = today daily energy expenditure

HAHA Oh, you're right, I kind of misread it. He put in "lowerbody" I think in the title....

Anyway, yes HIIT will help, but diet is still #1.
