Low Windows Vista score for Video

Hey guys,

I just set up a new PC today - E6400, Vista, 800GTS 320Meg, etc. This is my first run with Vista and while looking around the Control Panel, I came across the Windows Performance Icon. I'm looking at my CPU and RAM numbers and they are both in the high 5's, but the 2 video score are at 1.0.

Is this a known bug? Or do I have something set up wrong. I got the latest NVidia drivers and everything looks to be set up ok.

Just kinda curious.

Haven't tried any games yet.....I'll do that next. I'm downloading 169.25 again and will try to re-install.

Just re-installed, rebooted, and ran the assessment, and it's the same 1.0 score for both video sections. There's an exclamation that says new hardware has been detected, and that I need to refresh the score, but I've done that twice.

This is on a fresh Vista 32-bit install, BTW.

Should I check out any video benchmarks? I don't game all that much (video card was a gift from my BIL - one of his old cards) and don't think I'd notice any poor performance testing out some of my games.

Something isn't right with your system. My old 7800gt co got a 5.9 and a 5.7 on gaming graphics on the scoring. My lowest score is with my primary hd, a sata2 hitachi which keeps my overall score at 5.7 else I'd have 5.9 across the board.

I thought MS said they were going to increase the Vista score over time? I am in the same boat with my hd. It keeps me at 5.6 instead of the 5.9's in the rest of my system. As for the original post, download 3dmark06 or 05 and see what you get. You will get a better gauge of your system that way.

8384 in 3dMark06. Does that sound right? From the online results, this PC seemed to be in the upper 75% range of all of the systems. ALso strange was that some tests, I was in the 40-50-60 fps, and then others I was at 0 or 1 fps for almost the whole test. Not sure what else to check. I've been using ATI cards for as long as I can remember. I've been thru the NVidia settings and everything looks ok, but again, not really sure what I'm looking for.

When i rebuilt my machine for my 8800gt i had the same issue until i did two things. One, was to install the correct driver for the card. The other was to install all the proper drivers for the new motherboard.

Perfectly normal for 3dMark: the 40-50-60 fps results are for GPU hardware-accelerated tests, the 0-2 fps results are for the CPU tests (not surprisingly, CPUs aren't very good at specialised 3D functions).

I get 5.9 graphics rating with my 7800GT and 5.4 for gaming graphics rating, make sure you have installed latest drivers even motherboard chipset drivers etc..

You might find that your rating for your video card changes as you play a few games.

You guys are good! I initially used the MB drivers on the CD from Abit. But downloading new ones (even though they are from March 2007) for my chipset seems to have fixed the problem. Both video scores are up to 5.9. Now the bottleneck seems to be my CPU at 5.1, but I can deal with that for now.....

Thanks all!

Aaron
