Hey Guys,

I'm by no means a computer genius. But I do know my way around them. I have come by an extremely strange issue that I have been trying for days to fix. Hopefully the wait is over.

Anyways, I have a I5 3317U Low voltage processor. Since I owned it I been stuck by bad performance and could never really put my finger on it since the hardware seemed to be able to do what i was doing. It just always handled it terribly. Here's my Problem;

When The Laptop is plugged in, it runs at 20% Optimization. Meaning I only get 0.78GHZ of my 2.6GHZ that it should be. As soon as I unplug the chord it runs at full power, however, doing what i'm doing the battery only last about an hour. I've tried everything. There's no Options in the BIOS, The Power Settings don't seem to fix it, I'm just completely stuck. Hoping someone has ran into this issue before, and has a quick fix for it.

I'm using an ASUS S56CM.

Thanks for any help.

I have a Sandy Bridge Celeron/Pentium laptop, that has the same issue. It is an Asus X401A. On battery, it only really runs at 800Mhz. On AC power, it runs at 2300Mhz.

Edit: Nevermind, I see now that you actually have the opposite problem, running slow on AC power.

In control panel under "power options", you should have several profiles. Change the profile you're using to "balanced" or "performance". Most likely this is your problem.

Strange issue as yours looks to be running the opposite of what it should be. Running full power while plugged in and lower power while on battery is the way it's meant to operate.

Does your laptop have some kind of utility program that your missing that controls power features?

I have tried all of the power options. No matter what I change it to, it still does not go above 0.78GHZ. When I unplug it it runs fine, but the battery lasts 45 minutes. So you can see how this is a little bit of a issue for me. I've been looking everywhere for BIOS updates, or just people having this problem, there's seems to be little to no information out there. I just want my PC to run at full speed always, currently it notices my chord when i plug it in to charge and cuts Ultization down to roughly 20%. I know this is obviously a power saving mode, however I have no idea what i'm looking for. I'm sure there's a simple fix, I just can't find the answers. :( HELP

PS: What power options should I look for? I also tried running with the battery disconnected. It didn't change anything.

You are running the latest bios found on the Asus site?

Still running with original OS install? Win 7?

Did you look thru the downloads section and update to the latest versions of drivers, utilities? Did you follow the for best results remove the previous version of this software first when stated?

Some laptops will have a utility provided by the maker that allows power saving feature controls. It won't be in windows power saving section but a separate app. Does your have such a utility?

Have you backed up your data and tried a system restore to see if it fixes the issue?
