System specs: Gateway 6400, dual 933's, 2G PC133 ram.

With that much ram, why do I have to have a swap file at all? And WHY won't Windows XP let me use all that memory? Photoshop 6 will only use up to about 512M, and then complain it needs more virtual memory to complete tasks, when it's not even near using the full amount of physical memory..........

WTF??????????/

Hi...

Virtual memory is Disk Cache.

MS operating system requires this... and its initially setup during installation. So, I'm assuming you tinkered with this paramater.

I generally reduce the size of my cache for gaming purposes to 400mb (w2K).

Go and up the value. (left click my computer, hit advanced tab, then performance options)

Thats for W2K, ... s/b similar in XP ... (i hope)

As I understand it, in Win9X you could completly disable the swap file if you had a lot of ram, but in NT the swap file must be there.

What BS. Windows doesn't seem to handle memory management very well, does it? There's got to be a way around this..........
