Low TDP GPU for Dell Poweredge Server

Hi -

I got a Dell Poweredge R210 server for an incredible deal with quad core Xeon (Lynfield L3426). It is an enterprise level 1U server which will be used as a mediaserver (Plex, HTPC) and sometimes occasional code development for me. The problem is the PSU that came with the Poweredge is 250W and minus the Lynnfield (45W TDP at full blast), motherboard, SSD and 8GB ram, I am guessing I cannot use a GPU card greater than 75W TDP (someone correct me if I can go higher).

Based on these constraints what would be the most ideal card? I have read that nVidia NVS 450 works well, but I am not interested in a business/professional card since I can get a regular GPU for way cheaper having the same hardware.

Oh shoot, it's a 1U, right? What kind of crazy low profile card does it need or is the video slot sideways? Do you need 3D acceleration? If not I'd go with something like a GeForce 6200.

Hi thanks for the reply. I forgot to mention that the Dell chassis has a horizontal slot to take full height PCI-E cards. I just use riser. Now is the GPU's cooler is too bulky I may have issues with closing the lid, in that case I will replace the cooler with a low profile passive heatsink.

I was thinking more along the lines of R7 240. I develop Cuda/OpenCL applications and prefer a card with its capabilities. I am not a gamer so I am not interested in gaming performances, looking more for a card which fits the case and the included PSU that can be used for PLEX and media transcoding too.

I should have also mentioned that I cannot fit anything more than a single slot GPU in the 1U chassis. How good is the XFX 7750? Is the fan an exhaust type?

I put a Sapphire 7750 in my little Dell 300whatever. It runs even recent games well and it only takes one slot. It has a small fan.
