Low signal strength... USB port the culprit?

I have a Linksys Wireless G broadband network adapter, and it's getting really low signal strength. It's on the first floor, and the router is in the basement. The computers upstairs are getting a better signal than this computer. Is this because the computer only has regular 1.1 USB ports, while the adapter is made for high-speed USB?

Nah, that shouldn't affect signal strength. You have something setup no quite right or something interferring.
