Compared to these results from here of a 5750

warhead5750oc.jpg

and
57503dmarkvantage.jpg

The 5750 was overclocked to 870/1350

I ran some subsequent tests where I lowered my cpu to stock and left the gpu at stock.

got this in the ambush test (same as above)

Play Time: 117.62s, Average FPS: 29.77
Min FPS: 22.76 at frame 86, Max FPS: 37.99 at frame 735
Average Tri/Sec: 2851957, Tri/Frame: 95786
Recorded/Played Tris ratio: 5.45

I have been told it's the cpu but it doesn't go full load when testing crysis, stays around 30-40%.

update mobo & vga bios, chipset drivers, and use catalyst beta.

your gpu score in 3DV should be about 12k-14k, not 8k

I have the latest bios for the video card but I haven't touched the bios for the video card. Chipsets are installed.

you should update your bios. Search around the web for your particular motherboard with 5850 running 4x.

I know this is a dumb question but is your 5850 plugged into the fastest PCI express slot your mobo has? I know for my mobo (Asus p7p55d) has one pci express x16 slot and one x4 slot.

I am checking the manual to see about the two different slots, I just put it in the top one.

As AzN said you may be able to fix the issue by updating your bios. You can also try reseating your video card, cleaning the pcie slot (with a can of air or something similar). Your PSU could also be a limiting factor in some rare cases ..

My bios is the latest available. I switched out the mobo for a msi K9A2 CF I had in the secondary rig. The bus is working fine on this one, I also upgraded the power supply to a corsair 650 w as well. The new power supply didn't fix the problem though. Thanks for all the responses, I will be diving into this issue once I get my main rig set up properly.

I swapped out the mobo and everything seems to be running nicely now.

A third (I have tried the 5850 a 4850 and a 4670) card in the gigabyte board says that it is running at 4x on the pci slot as well. I haven't heard from gigabyte as of yet. At least the 5850 is up and running well.

it would have been helpful if you ran Crysis with equal settings both times. the first test shows 4x AA and the next test shows no AA

You were looking at the comparison shots from the 5750. I ran with no aa on all my crysis tests. In that test he ran both x4 AA and no AA.

Did you ever try switching the PCI-e slot the cards were in on the "broken" motherboard? Maybe the manual is wrong.

I didn't bother because when I looked at the second slot there were no connectors or whatever you call them on the end of the slot like there are for the first slot.
