Hey I'm building a media centre style PC for the living room...
problem: its an old AMD K6-2 400MHz machine with 128MB of RAM.
What's a good OS to use, or what's the best approach to take when using Windows?
I tried Geexbox Linux before - video playback is excellent but I get no sound!

Win98 SE will run fine on that. If you strip it down and get rid of the Windows Media Player and Internet Exploder it will run even better.

Go with Mythtv. Knoppmyth works well for that, however you really need more ram for a media center PC.

Hmm... I think it'll be used only for playing music, movies, and the like... no PVR or anything.

No Windows Media Player? What would be good to use as an alternative?

I'll take a look at Myth... never heard of it before :(

Try the Ultra Player for music and AVI's, make sure to install DivX. WinDVD for DVD movies.

Which is actually better, WinDVD or PowerDVD? I've always used PowerDVD... tried WinDVD once but didnt really like the interface.
