Low refresh rate = rainbow webbing in games but not on desktop?

Hey, I finally got around to boot up a game on my used CRT Hitachi Cm811 plus (20 inch viewable.) Once the game starts it has MASSIVE rainbow effect of webbing. I tried degaussing it like 5 times didn?t work. Just made the rainbow stuff wave around for a minute. I also didn?t notice any flickering, just rainbow effect. So I changed the refresh rate from 60hz to 85hz, and all my problems went away.

I thought that was pretty weird so I exited out to my desktop and set my desktop to 60hz and had ZERO rainbow?ing going on. I even turned on a screen saver to see if that would matter, and couldn?t get any. No rainbows, just really annoying flickering.

So why is it doing this? Why would it do it inside of BF2 but not the desktop?

Sorry, but I have no idea what you mean by a "rainbow effect of webbing". Pics?

Perhaps the monitor's settings for that resolution/refresh combination are just way, WAY off, and it's resulting in visual problems?

The rainbow effect may be the result of bad color convergence at that particular resolution/frequency, but the fact that it only affects games leaves me puzzled. Driver problems, maybe?
