Low Profile video cards/sound?,what is the best?what is available?

getting a pc that has an agp slot but the case supports only low profile devices(bracket)
i have heard u can mod existing agp cards to do thishowever i would like to just buy something off the shelf if possible.
same for sound???it has onboard but would like better probably.
a push in the right direction would be helpful.

i think i remember seeing a low profile ati radeon 8500 and i think u can also get gf4 mx 440 , i read a thread on this a while back, try searching, no idea about sound card

You can get a low profile radeon 8500 le - as for sound you could get an extigy if you wanted totally external

There's VERY few sound cards that you could mod to be low-profile. Most are a full-sized card. I did have one that was a staticky POJ but was small enough to take off the bracket and put it in a tiny LP case. There must be others as well...

Any that SELL as LP? That's even tougher.
OEM circles for sure.... but WHO?

While not the best for gaming, the Rage 128 Pro based Xpert 2000 has excellent 2D and has DVD hardware acceleration...

i have found other cards that claim to be low profile on various sites,but they do not specify bracket size.
ideally id like to hunt down the elusive gf4mx420 lp.

That's probably nicer than the onboard S3, but it wouldn't be that great for gaming..

Have fun trying to find a GF4 low profile card anywhere in the US. For some reason 99.9% of the low profile cards are sold in Asia. I searched for weeks trying to find one that cost less the $200 but couldn't. So I ended up going with the 8500 which really isn't very good for me.
And I doubt you need a low profile sound card, the pci slots are usually off the motherboard unlike agp slots.

By the way, I have a Dell GX260.


I just found this at Price Watch.. MSI G4MX420D-T Low Profile.. MSI.com.. I wish this was around when I was looking.
