low profile pci?

Hi,
What exactly are low profile pci cards? Is is just that the circuit board is only a few inches high, or is the actual bracket by which the pci card is held in the case different?

Yep even the bracket is a bit more stubby. What I often do to "rig" a plain PCI card into a place where only a low profile one would fit is just unscrew the bracket from the full size PCI and install it without any bracket. Yea, the thing will be a bit floppy sitting there unsupported in it's slot but if you don't man handle your PC around all the time it'll be fine...
