low-profile/half-height pci cards...

are the metal backings on them (the part that's screwed to the case - chrome finish usually) a different size than regular sized cards?

cuz i've seen some extremely small low-profile cards that fit in regular ATX cases, but i'm not sure if it would fit in a flexATX case that required low-profile cards if that metal backing is a different size..

huh?

really...i noticed anyway that those metal backings can be taken off quite easily w/ one screw...i'm sure it couldn't be too hard finding half-height ones as a replacement...

but then again, nothing's really as easy as it seems.

Finding the low Profile Brackets even when the actual card is low profile is difficult. I've resorted to modifying the backplates with my Dremel. It's rather easy and the results look decent and work great..

Finding a bracket isn't the hard part... I've found that almost all the PCI cards I've played with have the same bottom screw location, top ones sometimes vary. But having a plate with HOLES that match the sticky-outie-bits is the pincher. Unless you have tools, which I do not.

I had to make do with just unscrewing the card and sticking it in there without a bracket holding it in place. Good thing I wasn't after aesthetics. 😉

Yep... that Gateway 2000 mini-system. Nice lil' machine. Got me through a real tough spot. Almost finished school... I'll have to buy one again as an additional workstation and constant reminder of one Anander's kindness. Thanks Tom. 😉
