Heck, good luck finding an Atom ITX mobo with 4 SATA ports.

Newegg has lots of ITX boards and some of them are pretty good.
...
The ITX boards only have 2 sata slots so you would need to get a PCI card.

Exactly. You've just added cost.

$75 mobo
$30 SATA card
$20 RAM
$42 mediocre case/power
$85 HDD
$60 HDD #2
$90 OS

=$402

Is the Acer box the only solution? No. Is it the best solution for everything? No. Might it be a decent solution for some? Yes!

OP asks for:
-As low power as possible
-4 to 6 SATA ports
-Gigabit ethernet
-WHS

The Acer box satisfies all these requirements at a really competitive price in a very small package.

OK, so now you've spent $150, plus you still need to buy a 1TB drive and the bonus 500GB drive and RAM. So let's say 85 for the 1TB and 60 for the 500GB, then $15 for the 2GB DIMM. So now we're up to $310. Now you have to buy the OS for $90. So you don't get hot swap, you have a bigger case, and you've spent more than the Acer solution.

Where does it say you get 2 hard drives? Did anyone actually read that link?

These fileservers don't consume much power anyway. Adding 12-20/year to your electric bill won't break the bank for the priceless memories it preserves.

The Acer is a very nice solution like, I did like the look of it when it was announced.
I just like making things with my own two hands :~)

Would you say the Acer is better than the latest HPs ? More efficient ?

I know im asking for the world. Sorta. Just want low power 🙁

Got one of those Acer WHS for a friend of mine a while ago, when NCIX was giving a free 1TB drive with it. He uses it for file serving (local and remote web access) and backups. It was easy to setup and build quality was good. Not worth it to build your own unless the server will be running apps IMO.
