Low onboard sound

A new build. So far, everything works. One problem is onboard sound is extremely low. Tried different music players. No change. System sound at max. Am I missing something?

Q9300
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R
4 Gig memory
Ubuntu (a Linux) 8.10

Thanks.

Most onboard sound these days requires externally-powered amplified speakers, because the onboard doesn't have any amp. If you are trying to use passive speakers, then the volume is going to be very low.

Go into the sound setting and make sure its setup properly and any place there is a vol for speaker or system setting max it. Install the onboard sound chips driver software from maker e.g. realtek and test and max volume there. If you need help watching movies and avi type files get K-Lite codec pack with the media player and you can over amp volume in its settings let me know if you need help finding that.

Ubuntu (OS) approach is to have everything included in the OS, and I have been spoiled by it. This time I had to get the current version of audio driver from internet, and replace what came with the OS package. It's working now. Thanks.
