I'm getting a stop error that says innaccesable boot device. A friend of my said he had the same problem and that this was the way he fixed the problem. The guy at the dell tech support place also told me to format it.
Maxtor didn't seem to have anything for this purpose(or any other d/l's for that matter). I seem to have found one that they make on cnet, go figure
IBM's 'wipe' utility works very well. I have used it with many different hard drivers. It can be downloaded from ibm's site, it is free as well and very simple to use.
Edit: It will zero fill the drive from the first sector to the last. The MBR (master boot record) as well as any partitions will the erased. Basically it will return the drive to the way it came from the manufacturer.

suggest you boot up with your startup floppy & type fdisk /mbr then hit enter. at the next prompt,
type sys C: & hit enter. remove the floppy & try reboot normally to see if you can get into windows!
