Low frame rate with Win XP

Last week I switched from Windows ME to XP. With ME I was getting around 10000 3DMarks and 80-100 fps on Ghost Recon. With XP I'm getting around 8300 3DMarks and only 40-60 fps. I was using the most recent detonators (41.09??) with ME. I've tried both 40.72 and 41.09 on XP and didn't see any real difference in 3DMarks or frame rate.

Like I said, I just changed OS last week.....so it's possible I just have something set incorrectly.

If anyone has any ideas I'd really appreciate your advice.

AMD Thunderbird 1.33GHz
ASUS A7M-266 Motherboard
AMD 761 Chipset on Northbridge
VIA VT82C686B Chipset on Southbridge
512 MB PC-2100
Windows XP (obviously)
BFG Ti-4200 128MB at stock speeds
Currently using 40.72 drivers

Also, did you fix the refresh rate issues (v-sync disabled?). I haven't used Nvidia in a while, but there are a couple of refresh fixes for them.

As far as the drivers go............
I tried to D/L the newest VIA 4in1 drivers, but VIA's website says that if you have a hybrid chipset motherboard (AMD North and VIA south) to get the drivers from the MB maker. ASUS website doesn't list 3in1 drivers for XP. I've got e-mail in to their tech support already and am just waiting for a reply.

I didn't think to turn off V-sync. Let me try to remember how to do that and I'll give it a try.
