LOW FPS in online games, tried things no fix..

Here is my system spec below. I can not figure out why my system is running at such a low FPS in the games. Kalonline is one, and when there is a lot of action, the game freezes, and the FPS in the game goes down to 0-5 range. It stays frozen for like 10 sec. I have reinstalled XP Pro several times. I have updated to the latest Nvidia drivers, and used driver cleaner. I have tried my old 6800 video card, same problem. I have the powersupply hooked up to the video card and shows no signs of being low in power. Friends with weaker systems do not have this problem, so I don't get it. I have a fast internet connection, 10meg down, 1 meg up at speedtest.net. Any help would be great.

This is a XPS 600 system with 2 gig of ram from Dell that is 2 years old now.

Have you tried running the game at lower graphics settings - ie: to match your friend's weaker systems?

Do you have issues with other online games or just Kalonline?
Have you had similar issues with any offline games?

I'm thinking you could be having severe packet loss as I see no other reason for the low fps. Does Kalonline have built-in network monitoring which will show your packet loss/ping/transfer rate?

What are your driver settings? Hopefully, you have them set to performance and not quality ones which will kill your fps.

If it does I have no idea how to activate it. I haven't really played any other online games except Nascar 2003. And I don't have problems with that one. I notivced when I moved the resolution down to 800x600 the lag got much less, and the fps didn't drop as bad.

Yes, everything is set to Performance instead of Quality in the nvidia driver.

Your video card is fine, your processor is throttling.

I just did this program and watched it while making it lag...the Tm1 Throttle didn't even show 1%. The CPU load on the 2nd processor maxed out, and when it lagged which was weird, the cpu freq went from 3000mhz to the 100,000 mhz range which was weird.

When you say reinstalled XP, do you mean repair or clean install?

Try setting affinity to a single core, see if that helps.

I did, and it did help the game some, just caused my machine to run slower.

That's a mystery, your CPU performance is off by a large amount, that's definitely where your problem is. The 100,000 MHz thing I wouldn't worry about, it's probably just a result of bad sample averaging or some such shoddy algorithm.

Maybe bad chipset drivers, malfunctioning throttle reading or some awkward CPU/mem controller damage. I suspect it's somewhere in the software however, it could be any number of things. Check if anything else is sucking up processing power.

Well, I had old chipset drivers from Dell loaded. I then updated them from nvidia site with the latest for my board. No difference. So I am lost...hmm.

How would that make your machine run slower? Setting affinity should only affect the executable itself, which in turn should free the other core to run all the background tasks uninterrupted.

Have you tried closing unnecessary background tasks? Have you tried playing with the virus scanner disabled (temporary only)?

My cpu was running 100% when in game, so anything else I did my machine was lagging even opening my computer. I have closed everything down in the background I don't need.

No virus scanner installed, this is a pretty fresh install
