My system looks like this : AMD thoroughbred XP2200+, Abit siluro GF4-ti4400, 512 samsung pc2700 memory, Windows XP (more details in my signature)
I tried both detonator 30.82, and 40.72.. and in both.. I have FPS reduction in certain area of races.

FSAA is disabled everywhere and all. Vsync is on (I tried off anyway...)
There is nothing running in background, and my HD is defragmented.
I run 1024x768x32 every graphics set to maximum.

Not that it is unplayable, but after how much I spent on my system, I cannot accept loosing FPS on such a poor looking game (IMO). FPS drops are very annoying and makes me looses control of my car. Also... the game will run pretty smoothly if I play 800x600x16 lower graphics, but I just don't WANT.

Well how the hell!

I had the same problems with this game. I had to turn almost all the details to low to get it running smooth enough to not stutter. I'm running only a GF3 ti200 though... I can't believe it stresses a GF4 too.

Just installed it on my gf3 ti 200 xp 1700+ system with details on MAX. Framerate is silky smooth. Same with my friends. Not trying to brag, but just letting you know your system is more than capable of getting good framerates...

You didn't think your pc's specs influenced frame rate did you? You'll always find PC games that run dismally on beastly machines, need for speed series is usually one of them.

Hmm... mine is a 1GHz with a GF3 ti200... the processor makes that much of a difference ?

I recall reading that someone changed the AGP size in their bios to fix this problem - I forget the exact name, but the choices are 8, 16, 32, etc....

Just turn down the car detail one notch. All it does is turn of real-time reflections (not a big deal). Once I did this, it ran fine on my Ti200 @ 1024*768, all other details on high, anistropic filtering at 2x.
