Which is faster? Does anyone know the megapixel fill rate of the two? Thanks.

The Xpert 98 is a decnt card for 2D. In fact, it was VERY good. I just sold one. 3D? I've got no idea...except I think it probably sucked!😀

Well does anyone know anything about the 3d labs card? I can't find reviews for it.. ANYWHERE! Anand talks about the Permedia 2 in his Permedia 3 article but I can't find his Permedia 2 listed.

I used to have a permedia 2 (creative GB Exxtreme) many moons ago (K6 200 era).

It's a quirky chipset, what it does it does well, if slightly slowly, but it doesn't completely support VESA modes and some D3D and OpenGL features are broken.

It's been a long time since 3dlabs have released new drivers fo it also.

Permedia General Resource would be your best bet for info.

I have no idea about the ATI card.

I would go with the ATI card. Ive seen some reviews on the permedia card and it is just slowwww. And they dont have good drivers.

I had the ATI card (actually the ATI Xpert@Play which used the same Rage Pro chip). It actually rendered 3D games slower than my PII 300MHz in software mode at the time. It looked better than software rendering of course...but it was almost unplayable in games like Quake II.

Go with the Permedia card. The 3D functionality of the ATi Rage was very similar to the S3 Virge....crap. The saving grace for the ATi is top quality 2D.

The Rage Pro isn't exactly as crappy as a Virge. In fact, it will kick a Virge's ass in everything. However, it still is very crap for 3D. The Permedia isn't much better though. Its in the generation of the RIVA128, original Voodoo and Rendition V2x00, and it underperforms all of the above-mentioned cards in 3D games. In professional 3D apps though, it shines(compared to cards of its generation anyway)
