I am looking to get a camera to take pictures with to post on a website. I don't think I really need anything high-end... as a matter of fact, I am looking to get the cheapest thing available. I have narrowed it down, here are the contenders:

Largan L-Mini 350
Samsung SDC-80

The Largan is the cheaper one, no LCD, no zoom, no 1024 resolution, serial upload, 2MB memory, etc. But, it is also cheaper. I can get the Largan for $40 shipped.

The Samsung is more expensive, but has many of the features that I meantioned were lacking in the Largan. It is $170, with a hundred dollar rebate.

My question: If I am going to only be using the camera for postings pictures on the internet, do I really need anything more than the Largan?

I would say that you generally would not need anything more than the Largan. I have an Agfa CL-18 (same specs as the Largan) and I'm fine with it for simply posting to the web. Of course if you ever want to do anything more with it, the Samsung is a better idea. The Largan should be quite adequate for snapshots destined for the web, anything more though, and you'll likely be wishing you had the Samsung.

Not having an LCD is no problem. I always have mine turned off to save battery juice.

Posting high quality pictures to the net is not really practical so that's not very important.

For internet postings I say go with the cheap camera until you find out that you want more. Than upgrade using you experience as a guide. Man, what have you got to lose? Only$40.

eyor, check the "Hot Deals" Forum, current thread. The SDC-80 is selling for $69 new (after rebate, only for college students).

EDIT: Oops, but then you knew it. I have a "free" Earthlink camera that is fine for just web pictures. I was briefly spoiled by the HP 215 which took great pictures (for $170) but I returned it because it was not compatable with rechargeable batteries (it EATS batteries).

Cool, I guess I will get the Largan from overstock.com then.

...speaking of eating batteries, though, has anyone had that problem with the Largan?
