Also, what are the details on that processor?"

a 1.4 ghz throughbred core....not a bad starting point...might make a great little tivo box with a pvr150, a new hdd (dirt cheap anymore) and a dist thats a little more myth tv friendly 🙂

Not sure if the CPU could handle mpeg decode smoothly... Anybody with first-hand experience?

i have a 1.6 tbred core and it is ok for everything except hdtv encoded in h.264 where it stutters badly.

those geode chips run insanely cool right??
like pvr with a low rpm low air flow type?
be worth it to gut this and put it in a smaller desktop case?

That actually looks cheap and nice enough as a desktop system upgrade with Win2000 or so.
I have a bunch of spare parts that I wouldn't mind stuffing it all in this computer (TV tuner, 6 channel PCI sound card, FX5200, etc).

I have P4 3.2Ghz 1GB RAM and 1080p h.264 encoded quicktime still studders!. If you read the specs to play 720P and 1080P, it requires Core Duo 2.0

Deal is off for right now, anyway -- but $149 for the Geode is not nearly as good as $149 for a Tbred 2400+ system 6 months ago. These systems are barely OK, although the heatsink/fan is pretty noisy.

I have no experience with a Geode processor...
I got a Sempron 2400+ and a Sempron 2800+ when they were on sale last year.
I reformatted the HDD and put on XP.
Get a 15 - 17 inch LCD and they make nice internet/e-mail boxes for family and good game boxes for the kids.
I couldn't build one for that price.
Dell outlet has some nice deals for @ 199.00 (with XP included)

You'd probably want to use a video card with built-in mpeg2 decoding for a myth box, to offload some of the work from the processor. The nvidia 5200 cards are good for that and cost around $35. The specs indicate that the motherboard does have an AGP slot.

Also worth mentioning that myth is a front-end / back-end system, so you could do all of your video capture on this box and have multiple remote front ends to watch TV.

Yeah, I'm waiting for those $149 Tbred based systems to come back around.
