low cost scanner suggestions

I have an HP Scan4200c that seems to have stopped working. (Using XP.)
I just scan a few documents or pictures now and again, so nothing fancy needed, but open to hearing more If there's some great new feature I should have..

Any suggestions for a low cost replacement? ($50-60ish?)
 
It's one of those items that's hard to screw up. From what you are saying (casual, infrequent scanning) just find the one that fits your budget. Unless you are scanning photo negatives, just get a Canon CanoScan LiDE110 for $60 and call it good.

This is my thought. Unless you need something special (like auto sheet feeders, ultra high resolution, negatives, etc.) then just about anything on the market will work as long as there are drivers for your version of Windows.
 
If you have to scan negatives or transparencies, you will need a photo scanner, i.e., one that has a pad that can be removed to expose a light source in the lid. Also, what are you expoecting to scan? Plain paper and cards can be a cheap one. If you need to scan from books and large media, then you need a page scanner.
