I'm wondering if anyone's tried a low cost line doubler for going straight from composite or svideo to a VGA monitor. I have an All-in-Wonder 128 already. While it's nice for TV, it's not well suited for game systems. If set to "single field" it drops every other field. This halves the frame rate and many one pixle shapes like text lines get dropped. If set to "both fields" the video jitters up and down by one pixle. I get a headache. If set to "interlaced" the video looks like a comb has been run through it because the fields rarely line up.
The two line doublers in my budget range are the REDANT "AV Convertor" and the TVOne "cheese video box." Both take composite or svideo and output VGA 8-8-8. Has anyone ever used one of these?
Why not buy a $200 TV? I live in a dorm, I don't have space for a monitor and a TV. (that and the cool factor)
My old Mitsubishi monitor had a composite input as well as VGA and TTL. It had a better picture than most current 15'' TVs. Are such things still made? I miss it.
