I'm looking for an extremely low cost case with power supply. The case needs to have a removeable mobo tray.. I cannot seem to find one on NewEgg. Any help?

Gee, imagine that... You want features found on decent cases in a cheap crap one... Of course, your idea of cheap and my idea of cheap could be completely different. For me, a cheap/low cost, case is anything under $100. Especially if it comes with a power supply. Spend much less than that and you run the risk of getting either a hand grater or a PSU that will fry your rig.

Post up what you have to spend, then save/beg for some more money and come up with a reasonable amount. Also, what are you looking to put into the case? You might get away with a quality 300W PSU, but you also might need to get one over 400W just to be stable (your computer, we know you're not)...

To me cheap is $50 and below. This is NOT my computer, my friend wants me to build him one and he doesn't want to spend $100 on a decent case/power supply, also if you don't have anything useful to say don't bother replying to this thread because I don't want to hear it.

I won't recommend getting ANY case, with a power supply, for under $50. Maybe advise him on a slightly slower processor (unless he's already going for a celeron, slowest available) to move money towards a better case.

I look at cases as long term investments. With the case I have now (about $200-$230 depending on where you look, without PSU) I expect to have it until a mobo standard changes and it won't hold new boards. At THAT time, I'll delegate the old case to a server (with the last mobo that goes into it). I expect to get a loooong time out of the V1100b case. Any quality case should last until the standards change and force you to get a new case with new mobo.

Evercase E4252.
If you want cheaper, don't expect it to be a good case. And don't expect that one to power a nice gaming rig, either. Great for a mid-range non-gaming box, though.

For that price I like Raidmax cases,.... the PSU's that come with them are usually pretty good for an average desktop machine. I wouldn't count on it for OC'ing, gaming, or a fancy vid card, but for basic computing they do fine. Also for less than $50, and even less than $100 I doubt you'll find one with a removeable mobo tray,.... there might be a case out there,......

The Evercase mentioned above or the athenatech A747 or A600 series. You aren't going to find removable mobo tray in this price bracket unless you hit places like dumpinggoods.com... Some models of Athenatech (e.g. the A605, the silver and blue ones) have $5. instant rebates - gets the shipped total to about $62. Very nice cases for the money considering they come with Sparkle/Fortron's budget line PSUs

And in the regular system recommendation articles over on the AnandTech side, they often list cases like this one: Link

I have to agree, for that price range raidmax is about your best bet for decent cases with better than crappy psu's. I personally shop in the $60-100 range for cases without a PSU but that is because I like to overclock and game alot.

Eh. There are some good ones if you look, though the power supply, if of decent quality, will be relatively low in power.

Try this one at directron:

link

I actually wrote the directions for that one a few years back--it's a bit cheaper these days. No real bad sharp edges, a nice removable MB tray, very sturdy, but only 300W on the PSU (and my PSU fan died after a couple of years--but otherwise that case and psu held up fine and I've moved it on to the inlaw's machine.)

Directron, in general, has some decent looking cases below $40. Some Raidmax's and some Superflowers. (I can't tell if those Superflowers have Superflower/TTGI PSU's. If they do, they should be quite nice. But don't discount the possibility that a cheaper generic has been stuck in there.) Still, none seem to go over about 350W for power.

Looking at newegg, I see some similar and better deals. You didn't like this one? Or maybe one of the Rosewills? (Some positive reports on Rosewill cases and PSUs on hot deals.)

Or try this thread on hot deals.

The Antec SLK3700 BQE is another great choice...Kinda goes over your budget.

It does however come with some very nice features found in newer cases...120m/m fan with provisions to hold another 120m/m fan up front...So you get excellent cooling with a minimum on noise if quiet is a concern...Slide in drive bays that have rubber gromets to help further enhance quiet operation.

Decent "quality" power supply...I find them to be one of the best "bang for the buck" cases out there.

Other great choices are the Chieftech Matrix cases that can be had if you look around for cheap...Add a nice Fortron 350watt power supply with the single 120m/m fan and you have a great combination for cheap.

I personally have never seen cases with removable motherboard tray's that are not above 100 dollars without the power supply.

Oh that Monarch - aren't they in legal trouble for selling priated Win 2k? And the shipping is apples and oranges - Newegg is $75 w/3-day shipping, Monarch is $114. w/3-day!!!

If it makes you feel better Zepper, go ahead and spend the extra $40 on shipping. The free fedex/ups ground Monarch is offering is quite adequate. What you will receive is identical wether it's from Newegg or Monarch, I'd be willing to take the gamble that it's ok.....

I'm happy to pay the extra $10. at newegg to get it here quickly and likely less beaten up... I'm NOT happy to see someone trying to charge nearly $50. for the same service. Raises a red flag around here.

Monarch gives the option of shipping with one of two competing carriers - I imagine that if you have an exclusive shipping arrangement, as Newegg does, that you can get certain discounts.

Who would pay $50 more for the same service? I think people are smarter than that here. For the identical product, I would take the free option any day of the week, I don't care who the vendor is. I don't remember ever receiving anything beatup because of the cheaper shipping option. I have received about 50 computer related packages through various shippers using the cheap option almost all of the time, and I can say I've never returned one item because of shipping damage. I guess I am just lucky....

I may be a bit old school, but when I look at a $100 case, I can't see where all that money goes.

I just bought this case for my new system, and I must say I approve greatly:

http://www.newegg.com/app/View...tion=11-156-019&depa=0

specs:
Material: 0.7mm SECC Steel
Drive Bays: 5.25'' x4, 3.5''(External) x2,3.5''(Internal) x4
Expansion Slots: 7
Front Ports: USB2.0 x2
Motherboard Compatibility: ATX Form Factor 12" x 10.5" or smaller
Dimensions: 16.2''Hx8''Wx17.8''D

It also has a side window and 2 80mm side fans. For $43.49 (after shipping), it's a pretty nice case. It's got rolled edges, so I didn't scrape one knuckle installing anything. It's plenty roomy enough, so I had no problems getting things to fit. It come with a very nice automotive quality paint job. Very smooth.

For quality and price, I don't think you can beat it. The 29 reviewers at newegg agree with me :)

I got a cheap case from a local vendor, I think I paid $35 or so, it's got a 350W PS and removable mobo tray. It gets the job done, I don't OC or game heavily so as long as it's running I figure its okay. That said I am considering replacing the PS with something name brand just because everybody around here hypes name brand power supplies so much and I'm in the process of making a hardwood bezel to replace the plain plastic one and improve the intake air flow a little bit.

Edit: I dont do nearly as much work on the inside of the case as I do on the outside so a couple of sharp edges I have to watch out for when I actually open the case once a year don't bother me.
