Low choppy noise TX650

Hi, I'm having an issue with the fan supplied with the Corsair TX650. On idle the PSU is completely quiet. But after a period of standard use (browsing, mailing, nothing power consuming) the fan revs up to a low rpm, presumably due to slightly increased heat. That noise is fine, it's very quiet in fact. But what isn't fine is that the fan, after a period of maybe 3 seconds, then goes to a lower rpm-setting that it maintains pretty much until I shut off my system. At that lower rpm, the fan emits a low choppy noise, like a fan slapping lightly against a piece of hard plastic or something. I'm guessing there's something wrong with it?

Now, is this something I should be able to fix myself? Or do I need to switch the whole PSU? I would rather not do that (with all that cable hassle involved) since I just installed this one after my previous HX650 just went and died on me after 1,5 years.

Any help much appreciated!
