Please no. As someone that even bakes with Splenda from time to time, I will flat out say that Stevia is fucking disgusting.

I've just had the granulated variety in coffee, but it tasted fine, at least as compared to splenda. Maybe it works better with coffee's strong flavor.

I think it is person specific. I think Stevia ruins stuff but my wife loves it.

Is it the aftertaste that gets you? I wonder if some are just more susceptible to the aftertastes from the artificial sweeteners? For example, I make this sopapilla cheesecake (that's really tasty by the way... make one!), and I've made half-Splenda versions as well as full Splenda. I've asked people if they were able to tell that I used a fake sweetener, and none of them really noticed. However, I still notice the aftertaste... even with the half-n-half version.

Although, if you're really incessant on drinking a different artificial sweetener, why not Coke with Splenda?

Splenda tastes horrible to me, but then again so does stevia and every other artificial sweetener. I wish I could tolerate those things, but they're just so strongly bad tasting.

They're not good, I agree. I drink a ton of coffee, and I always liked it Dunkin' Donuts sweet. A year ago I switched from sugar to splenda on the advice (ranting insistence) of my dentist, who is also a family friend. It took some getting used to, but I don't miss sugar anymore, and dropping it from my coffee was a significant part of losing 40+ pounds over the last twelve months, so its worth it I think.

Nice, congrats! I'm on Victoza and metformin because I was recently diagnosed with diabetes. It was inevitable because I was hooked on soda. 12 cans per day was nothing. If I had an unlimited supply, I'd likely have killed myself.

I can't eat much any more because of the Victoza, but when I do eat something sweet, I eat very little of it and don't do it very often. I find I'd rather occasionally have a true dessert than regularly have something with artificial sweeteners.

Then again, alcohol tastes weird to me too, so maybe my sense of taste is all screwy.

Zero Ultra is okay as a normal drink, but if I want to make it into a mixed drink, I don't care for it as much. Absolutely Zero is probably the best for mixing. I've also tried the Blue and Red flavors, and they're okay. They taste like blueberry and cherry, which is probably expected.

Celery is my healthy snack of choice -- I bought a heart earlier tonight to chop up. Although, I find that carrots have too weird of an aftertaste.

Please no. As someone that even bakes with Splenda from time to time, I will flat out say that Stevia is fucking disgusting. My mom kept raving about it, and I tried the Zevia brand soda, which was nasty. Diet sodas normally have an aftertaste, but that's an understatement in regard to that soda. I had to force myself to drink them, because at $3 for a six pack (note: that was on sale), I wasn't just going to throw them out. Also, a few months ago, I tried a recipe that called for Truvia, and good god... that was the first time I had ever thrown away something that I had baked.

Coke recently released a Stevia-flavored drink (Coca-Cola Life), but it's actually half-n-half (the other being sugar). Although, if you're really incessant on drinking a different artificial sweetener, why not Coke with Splenda?

I'm insistent on not consuming artificial sweeteners whenever possible. Stevia-based sweeteners are manufactured/processed to a degree, yet natural in every way.

Stevia, and iirc the better sugar alcohols (which most are nutritive but about half the calories), do not cause insulin reactions. Believe it or not, the fake sweeteners trick the body into behaving like sugar was just put on tap, so you still go through the insulin swings.

Minimizing such insulin reactions helps to better manage dietary intake and energy management, which overall makes it easier to feel satiated and energized after meals and helps to encourage the scavenging of fat.

Honestly I haven't had many stevia-sweetened things, but sometimes I can tell when other sweeteners are used, and other times I cannot. I've been meaning to get into baked goods with less sugar, but I'm still lazily looking for the right approach. Not just 1:1 sweetener replacement, but sweetener plus stuff like protein addition or other thickening agents to encourage similar mouth feel and whatnot.

The half and half Coke is just about what I figured would still lead to a true Coke taste - I'll have to keep an eye out for that one.

I've avoided Zevia because its not coke. I can't do any other cola, regardless of sweetener used. I can handle Pepsi but in general, I refuse diet pops. The only time I can drink something like Coke Zero is when it's been diluted with a fair helping of Rum. :D I can't drink Coke Zero straight. I just don't drink pop anymore because of this issue - the diets taste disgusting and the real versions have way too much sugar.

That's why I've also suggested these drinks should not be sweetened with stevia and only stevia - add sugar alcohols. I'll accept some calories. Leaving regular sugar will also help lend the right flavor to the semi-diet drink.
